1. Will I get assistant ship/funding or not?
●  Teaching or research assistantship is completely a department decision. Just make your
essays/ SOP as convincing as you can. If they like it, they will offer. Many people get it,
some don’t. So, hope for the best.

 

2. How is my department at ISU?
●  The general views have been positive regarding the departments. The studies here are
more practical than theoretical. To know more about your department or subject please
contact a faculty. Every department has a staff directory and professors are generally

3. How are my department placements at ISU?
● Depends on your profile and presentation skills. People have cracked Google, Microsoft
from ISU and people from the same department have waited for placements even after
graduation. But overall, ISU placement record has been exceptionally well. See the

5.  Should I go for on campus or off campus housing?

It depends on you if you want to go for on campus or off campus housing. Both the links above
have useful information. Please plan early and book the housing you prefer. Availability and
deadlines need to be kept in mind.

 

6.  How do I find accommodation at Ames?
● Ames has many property managers (see the link in 5.) that provide housing options for
students. Contact them and select the best option for yourself.  Booking before arrival
will be a good option keeping in mind the increase in international students
intake every year. Last year many students were not able to find an apartment
after many weeks.

 

7. What are the rent and monthly expenses for living at Ames?
●  Rent for apartments are available on the websites of various property managers.
Expenses depend entirely on individual and vary according to lifestyle.

 

8. How should I contact or connect with seniors of my department and others at ISU?

9. Does ISU have part time options ? Will I be able to get that?
● ISA would not be able to get you the part time but can definitely guide you to look for them
on your own. Part time options are available. But you will be able to access those once
you are enrolled at ISU on accessplus website. Please read the link carefully:

10. I need a place to stay so that I can search apartment. How to go about it?
● ISA has taken utmost care and understood this need and thus has a service from current
students who host new students for sometime till they get an apartment. Individual hosts
might ask you to share the rent and other cost if you overstay due to any reason. And if
they don’t ask we advise to bring gifts for them from India. Goodwill is always
appreciated.
● To go about it, New Students Coordinators  will be
posting excel sheets where you can request, if you have such need. Please have
patience and keep yourself connected to the google group and Facebook groups.
●  You should stay in contact with your host once you know who he/she is, let them know
about your stay, arrival and necessary information. Understand that they are all students
here and are working hard.

11. How do I reach Ames?
● The nearest international airport to Ames is Des Moines and there runs an executive
express from Des Moines to Ames. You need to book it through this link:
