Diwali Night

Diwali Night is the most anticipated event hosted by the Indian Students’ Association. Diwali, also known as the “Festival of Lights” is one of the biggest festivals in India. Houses across the country are decorated with lights, small oil lamps, and candles to showcase happiness and hope. Spending quality time with family and friends, indulging in traditional sweets and snacks and enjoying fireworks in the night sky is a true Indian way to celebrate this festival. To provide a taste of this Indian culture and to simply give people a chance to celebrate, the ISA executive committee organizes this event.

Each year the committee decides on an exciting theme for the event around which the evening is planned. The program consists of performances by different dance and music groups that come together to form a seamless story. Our performers are mostly affiliated with the various performance groups that partner with ISA to bring the Indian culture to Ames. Food is a must in an Indian festival and as such, dinner is served after the program and comprises of a variety of special preparations from India ranging from snacks to desserts and thus ending the night’s festivities in a true Indian fashion.

While “Diwali Night” has been awarded “The Best Event Award” for the years 2011 and 2013 by the International Student Council, the executive committee works hard to achieve an even greater role. We work our hardest for this event to give our family here in Ames a cause to celebrate in an as extravagant way as we do in our homeland. Through all the ups and downs of university life, we try to play our part in providing a memorable moment of happiness to ourselves and our fellow students, faculty and community members. This is a goal that we aspire to and shall continue working towards for as long as we can.
